How to make a timber bath caddy
The room: Main ensuite
Score: 29/30 (first place, using their bonus point)
The dramatic bath was a winner for the girls. “It has that day spa feel with the candles, the bath, the softer tones. It’s this balance of a punch in the face with a beautiful calmness throughout,” said Marty Fox.
It was all about the bath for WA couple Han and Can this week, who splurged on a spectacular custom-made translucent bath in their luxurious master ensuite. Made of amber resin, with matching twin basins, it was a showstopper that left the judges almost speechless.
The girls made the most of their choice too, celebrating the bath as the hero piece of the room, by positioning it on a plinth directly under a skylight for maximum effect.
“That is some drama; that is some theatre,” said Darren Palmer, appreciatively.
Shaynna said she’d never seen a bath like that before and loved the amber colour, calling it mind-blowing.
Darren said the couple had really thought about the detail and the amenity of the space, commending their planning. The generous wet area surrounding the bath added a sense of luxury, while the James Hardie VJ panelling on the entrance elongated the space and meant that the girls saved both time and money by not tiling the whole space.
VJ panelling adds character to a room, making it seem taller. It also doesn’t need a specialist installer, so can usually be done by a carpenter, or even a home handyperson.
The colour that Han and Can used in their main ensuite was Plastic Fantastic by British Paints.
