Moisture Ingress & Drainage Standards

A healthy home has proper drainage systems in place, from gutters and downpipes for rainfall to a ground moisture barrier for sub-floor spaces.

What does good drainage look like?

To meet Healthy Homes regulations for moisture ingress and drainage:

  • The property must have sufficient drainage, covering storm water, surface water, ground water, and an appropriate outfall
  • A system of gutters, downpipes and drains for displacing water from the roof
  • If the property has a subfloor, it must be fitted with a ground moisture barrier if it's practical to do so

To find out about exemptions from the moisture ingress and drainage requirements and specifics on other areas, please visit the Tenancy Services website.
