“The design here is absolutely incredible – elegant and classy,” said Shaynna Blaze.

A Japanese-inspired aesthetic in their alfresco area added a calming and elegant touch to the outdoor spaces of Han and Can.

It was a tough week for WA couple Han and Can who failed to finish their spaces. They had ambitious plans for their shed in particular, which was designed as two separate areas – as a brick-panelled potting shed with the other half as an art studio.

This design involved finishing the interior of the shed with plasterboard on the ceiling and cladding on the walls. Budgetary constraints led to Han doing most of the work herself in a gruelling week, but the final result was a beautiful, elegant, space filled with light.

The alfresco area took on a Japanese-style aesthetic, with a calm and muted palette, complemented by a peaceful and welcoming Zen garden with pebbles and rocks. Shaynna thought it was a great choice, complimenting Han and Can on the aesthetic and the fact it brought more light into the area.

“I love the colour scheme. I love the light-coloured timber, I like the light colour of the dining table,” she said.

The well-designed outdoor kitchen included a built-in barbecue, round dining table, and huge L-shaped lounge (a “great choice” said Marty Fox).

Design tip

Han and Can added lots of value to their home and outdoor spaces with the installation of a security system. A new build is the perfect time to think about security elements, with many innovative products to choose from.
