Week 6: Britt and Taz

The room: Rumpus room

Cash spent: $33,585 (Budget: $10,000)

Score: 20.5/30 (fourth place)

“It’s absolutely beautiful – great application, great thinking,” said Darren Palmer.

An elegantly designed Pilates studio with four reformer machines arranged symmetrically. The space features white draped curtains on the walls and ceiling, creating a serene ambiance. A pink exercise mat in the center holds pink fitness accessories including an exercise ball, resistance bands, and weights. Two potted plants sit at the far end, and the floor is light-colored wood.

Britt and Taz took the controversial step of creating a wellness room instead of a rumpus room. The focus was on creating a retreat that offered calmness and tranquillity, with the WA couple choosing a muted palette of layered whites for the room, anchored by a pale timber floor.

Soft sheer curtains wrapped the room from floor to ceiling, topped with billowing sheers above and the inclusion of a bar fridge for refreshments and a television flanked by two full-length arched mirrors.

A modern Pilates studio with two reformer machines flanking a central yoga mat. The space features light wooden flooring, white curtains, and a ceiling draped with white fabric for a calming ambiance. At the far end, a mirrored wall with an arched design sits below a mounted TV and a cabinet stocked with beverages.

It was an elegant response to a wellness aesthetic. All the accessories were in white, including two Reformer Pilates machines, a yoga mat, weights and ball, creating a Zen-like atmosphere.

Britt and Taz designed the room with their landscaping plan in mind, where they hope to include a spa, sauna and ice bath just outside the room for a complete experience.

Design tip

Reformer Pilates is a very popular fitness trend, offering low-impact exercise that combines strength and flexibility training. While classes can be expensive, an at-home solution provides an affordable way to enjoy a workout.

What colour paint did they use?

The paint colour that Britt and Taz used in their rumpus room was ‘Colorbond Paperbark’.
