Week 8: Han and Can

The room: Guest suite

Cash spent: $38,787 (Budget: $30,000)

Score: 24/30 (third place)

“This is really sophisticated,” said Darren Palmer. “It’s balanced and nuanced and still really punchy and bold.”

Han and Can delivered a bold, yet luxurious space for their guest suite, with layers of rich reds and burgundies

Han and Can chose a bold colour palette in their guest suite, while keeping the key design elements the same as the rest of the house. The couple went with their signature curves, including a rounded niche behind the bed, and a curved bathroom nib wall.

It was a tough week for the girls, with a few unfinished details, but the judges could see the vision that Han and Can have for the space and were impressed with their consistency.

Darren Palmer was a big fan of the rich reds the girls chose for the guest suite. “It does feel punchy and bold,” he said. “It feels autumnal and very successful.”

A layout change meant that the entry to the ensuite was located before the entry to the spare bedroom, allowing the bed to face the outside spaces. The girls took the opportunity to add in a make-up station between the hall and the bathroom for extra amenity.

The ensuite also featured some bold colour choices; with tones of red and rust colours and the same resin basin the girls chose in their winning main bathroom earlier in the season.

“I am in love with that resin sink – it’s so gorgeous,” said Darren.

Design tip

It’s always a good idea to choose similar fixtures and fittings throughout the wet areas in your house for consistency, but consider selecting a different colour palette in each bathroom for a point of difference.

What colour paint did they use?

The paint colours that Han and Can used in their guest suite were ‘Love Note’ by British Paints and Colorbond ‘Manor Red’.
