How to pick the perfect kennel

Choosing the right home for your four-legged friend is easy. It all comes down to the size of your dog, the size of your outdoor space, the weather conditions in your area and the type of material you want.

 

Plastic pet home

Plastic pet homes are a great option for any size dog. They come in various sizes to suit your particular breed and the modern design looks great in any backyard. Made from durable plastic, they are easy to put together - the instructions, screws and screwdrivers are included in the kit. The elevated base helps to protect your dog from the cold wet ground, and air vents in the walls and roof will keep it cool and help prevent odours. You also can remove the base for easy cleaning with a garden hose.

Portable plastic dog kennel

Perfect for little dogs, these small plastic kennels are lightweight, strong and highly portable. Built in two halves for easy storage and assembly, you can also take it apart to hose down and clean. Well-ventilated, the base is elevated off the cold ground and you can add specially designed polyester mats for extra comfort.

Soft dog kennels

An alternative material to the plastic kennel, these soft dog kennels are made from durable polyester that will protect your pet from the elements. Available in a range of sizes, they are lightweight and easy to assemble or fold down, making them great for travelling. They also come with a polyester mat for extra comfort.

Timber dog kennels

If you want a classic solid timber kennel, the Qiq Fix range has two different designs to choose from - the Pet Fort and Pet Shack. Both styles are easy to assemble and look great in any backyard. They feature rubber feet and are raised off the ground to keep your dog more comfortable. The Pet Fort has a pitched roof, while the Pet Shack comes in three different sizes with a flat, hinged roof to make it easier to get in and clean.

For information on the dangers of asbestos, lead-based paint and CCA treated timber and tips for dealing with these materials contact your local council's Environmental Health Officer. You can also use a simple test kit from Bunnings to indicate the presence of lead-based paint.
