Overview

Who doesn’t love a good camping trip? The trick to camping is comfort, and with a few simple touches, you can make your spot so cosy, you’ll never want to leave!

Steps

1Flooring

Start by marking out your communal area with some jute rugs. Feel free to mix and match the styles, or layer them up to create points of interest. Rugs may seem like an odd addition in the wild, but they’re comfortable underfoot, they reduce debris being tracked around and they tie the campsite together.

2Gazebo

Assemble your gazebo near your rugs, starting with the frame and finishing with the canopy on top. Once the gazebo is up, place your chilly bin or a trestle table underneath to create a communal area (and to prevent food getting wet if it rains).

Hang some fairy lights inside your gazebo: not only will they provide a lovely, warm atmosphere, they can also help you locate your campsite in the dark!

3BBQ

Portable BBQs are a great way to elevate camp food from bland to mouth-watering. We’ve used a small portable charcoal spit roaster, because it’s lightweight and uses either wood or heat beads for a fire. In order to get it firing, you’ll need heat beads, firelighters and matches. You may also want some tongs for cooking!

Safety tip: Be fire-safe this summer. Never leave your BBQ or any fire unattended, make sure to leave enough space between the BBQ and gazebo so that there’s no chance of sparks burning your canopy and make sure you have extinguishing materials close to hand.

4Seating

Add extra seating with an array of comfy camping chairs and cushions on your rugs. (Bright cushion covers are a great way to add in some style and colour.)

Health hazards may result from exposure to lead-based paints in older materials and copper chromium arsenic (CCA) treated timber. For information on the dangers of asbestos, lead-based paint and CCA treated timber and tips for dealing with these materials contact your local council's Environmental Health Officer.
