Spread the spooky spirit with this D.I.Y. Halloween doormat project. Using a few simple materials and tools, you can create a unique welcome to your home for trick-or-treaters on 31st October. Since you’ll be making your own stencil, feel free to get creative with the words or images you paint.
Safety tip: Always wear the appropriate safety equipment (safety glasses, ear muffs, gloves and mask ) and always follow the instructions for the product or equipment.
Lay down corflute to protect your workspace. Print the word 'BOO' in a bold font on an A3-sized piece of paper – the thicker the font, the better. Place on the corflute and cut out the letters using a retractable knife
You can also cut out a stencil of a bat to add to the bottom corner.
Using a round brush and a dabbing technique, add the black paint over the BOO stencil. Dabbing will prevent the paint from bleeding. The mat will soak up some of the paint, but keep dabbing. Once the paint is dark and even, remove the stencil and allow to dry.
Pin the bat stencil to the mat in your preferred spots and repeat the dabbing process. Once dark and even, remove the stencil and allow to dry.
