Bathroom with towels and other items hanging on hooks

Overview

Just moved into a new house or looking to freshen up some areas of your current abode? Here are some organisational tips and storage ideas that cover all bases, to help you declutter as well as create extra storage space, all without drilling any holes into walls or cupboards.

Steps

1Use the hallway to hang your necessities

Place a key rail rack on a wall that is highly visible and easily accessible to those in the household to hang their keys. Stay prepared for the rain by hanging backpacks, coats and umbrellas with some large or jumbo adhesive hooks.

2Tidy up the laundry room

Whether inside or on the side of a linen closet, use the broom gripper to hang your mops and brooms, preventing clashes with ironing boards and laundry baskets.

3Make it your kitchen, your way

Create more kitchen storage and bench space for cooking and preparation by hanging utensils like spatulas, large spoons, tongs and more onto your kitchen splashback using utensil hooks.

4Organise your bathroom

With a few wet and dry hooks, you can hang items inside the shower like loofas. You can also use these around the bathroom to hang hand towels, robes and even a hairdryer.

5Utilise any space

Further personalise the living room, dining room or bedroom, by hanging decorations like tassels or items like handbags, shirts, caps and belts using large or jumbo adhesive hooks.

6Change the placement if you change your mind

Is the placement a bit crooked or not to your liking? You can always remove the tabs by pulling it downwards, parallel to the wall surface (never towards you). Make sure to pull steadily. If it hasn't come off cleanly, you can use dental floss to remove the rest.

After removing, you can easily try a new spot to hang. Just make sure to prep the surface with isopropyl rubbing alcohol to remove any grime and dust. If you've recently painted a surface you are looking to hang a removable hook on, make sure to give the paint at least 28 days to full cure.

Health & Safety

Please make sure you use all equipment appropriately and safely when following the advice in these D.I.Y. videos. You need to be familiar with how to use equipment safely and follow the instructions that came with the equipment. If you are unsure, you may feel it is safest to consult an expert, such as the manufacturer or an expert Bunnings Team Member.

Grave health hazards are linked to asbestos, which may be in homes built up to 1990. Health hazards may result from exposure to lead-based paints in older materials and copper chromium arsenic (CCA) treated timber. For information on the dangers of asbestos, lead-based paint and CCA treated timber and tips for dealing with these materials contact your local council's Environmental Health Officer. You can also use a simple test kit from Bunnings to indicate the presence of lead-based paint.
