Make your home a cosy haven this winter with Earthwool® glasswool insulation.

The benefits of insulation

Insulating your home (in the walls, ceiling, and roof and under the floor) helps maintain warm temperatures inside your home, banishing indoor chills. Having good insulation can also make a big difference to your budget, slashing energy bills.

Earthwool® glasswool insulation is a revolutionary insulation. It keeps you warm and toasty during the winter months and – as the weather warms up – the insulation continues to work its magic, keeping your home cool and comfortable. Earthwool® glasswool insulation also has sound-absorbing qualities and it’s completely non-combustible, providing tranquillity and extra peace of mind.

Making a difference

With updates to the New Zealand Building Code regarding energy efficiency (H1) requirements for insulating new homes, insulation now needs to have a higher R-value. As the R-value goes up, so does the insulation’s effectiveness as a thermal barrier. The goal of these updates is to help combat climate change by reducing the energy used for heating by up to 40 percent.

If you’re adding an extension, planning a garage conversion or a loft, now’s the chance to insulate, making these spaces as snug and energy efficient as possible.

Keep up with changing rules

Six new climate zones have been introduced as part of the Building Code changes, but ceiling construction R-value will need to achieve at least R6.6 in all zones. A new single-layer R7.0 ceiling insulation is being developed by Earthwool® glasswool. As the changes become mandatory on November 3, there’s still time to future-proof your new build now to avoid costly modifications later this year.

Versatile and eco-friendly

One of the many benefits of Earthwool® glasswool insulation is its versatility. You can mix and match different products in the range to maximise energy efficiency. This eco-friendly product is made using recycled glass bottles, and it is tightly compressed into its packaging to make transport and handling a breeze. Plus, installers will love the ECOSE® Technology binder, which makes the product super-soft and less itchy.

Safety tip: Always wear the appropriate safety equipment (safety glasses, gloves and a mask, for example) when installing insulation, and always follow the instructions for the product or equipment.

Health & Safety

Please make sure you use all equipment appropriately and safely when following the advice in these D.I.Y. videos. You need to be familiar with how to use equipment safely and follow the instructions that came with the equipment. If you are unsure, you may feel it is safest to consult an expert, such as the manufacturer or an expert Bunnings Team Member.

Grave health hazards are linked to asbestos, which may be in homes built up to 1990. Health hazards may result from exposure to lead-based paints in older materials and copper chromium arsenic (CCA) treated timber. For information on the dangers of asbestos, lead-based paint and CCA treated timber and tips for dealing with these materials contact your local council's Environmental Health Officer.
