Colour is making a comeback, with home decorators choosing ever more bold colours for walls – and even ceilings – and veering away from traditional white kitchen cabinetry. If you’re wary about embracing colour wholeheartedly, the perfect place to start is in the laundry. As it’s not in the public domain – most houseguests will never lay eyes on it – the laundry is a low-risk space to make bold choices. However, as a room you use daily, you’ll still get regular enjoyment from your daring décor expression.
The great news about laundry décor is that there are many choices of material and thus opportunities to make a bold selection. An obvious starting point is the cabinetry – Kaboodle’s ‘Paint Your Own’ cabinets allow you to choose any colour you like; this gold hue is Dulux Burnside. The splashback is another fantastic zone to go a little wild with coloured or patterned tiles, or a boldly patterned glass or polymer splashback, like this Bellessi splashback in Antique Copper. Don’t forget tapware and accessories! Matt black makes a strong statement in cabinet hardware, a mixer tap and hanging rail.
A bold décor scheme means different things to everyone – it might be a daring colour choice, or it might mean experimenting with the ‘new neutral’ of dark cabinetry. Channel an industrial vibe with a black laundry unit and equally dark cabinets, paired with concrete look tiles or vinyl on the floor.
