Blinds are a great way to control light, set the mood, maintain privacy and they are ideal for simple clean living spaces. But how do you select the right blind for your home?

Vertical blinds are the answer for large spaces

Vertical blinds are perfect for wide windows, bi-fold and sliding glass doors, or entrances to outdoor areas. This is because they stack to the side rather than bunch up at the top of the window. Before you install vertical blinds, a good tip is to choose a similar colour to the window trim in the room.

Increase your privacy with roller blinds

Roller blinds are an ideal solution if you need a blackout option as well as the ability to block out noisy neighbours. They're also effective for houses that are exposed to the winter chill, because they don't have gaps that cold air can get through.

Easy to install and clean, they are also tamper free so little fingers can't get jammed in them. Roller blinds come in a range of colours and textures, making them a great choice for families of all ages.

Add space to your rooms with Roman blinds

Roman blinds lie flat against windows and are generally made from softer fabrics. For this reason, they aren't suitable for rooms that attract dampness, like bathrooms. Roman blinds can create the illusion of space if installed a little higher above your windows. This will extend your room by giving the impression of windows that reach from floor to ceiling. It will also make smaller windows seem larger.

There's a Venetian blind for every room in your home

Whether your style is country farmhouse or ultra modern, there's a venetian blind that'll make your room look great. Choose from a variety of colours, materials and textures including aluminium, timber or PVC. Not only are venetian blinds easy to install, they're low maintenance and easy to clean.

Bring warmth to your home with matchstick blinds

Perfect for rooms with modern furnishings, matchstick blinds help to create a warm and inviting feel in any interior living space. Available in a range of textures such as grasses, reeds and bamboo, they are soft to touch and add a luxurious feel to a room. Install them in a few simple steps and then add lining to the back of the blind for more light control and privacy.

Health & Safety

Please make sure you use all equipment appropriately and safely when following the advice in these D.I.Y. videos. You need to be familiar with how to use equipment safely and follow the instructions that came with the equipment. If you are unsure, you may feel it is safest to consult an expert, such as the manufacturer or an expert Bunnings Team Member.

Grave health hazards are linked to asbestos, which may be in homes built up to 1990. Health hazards may result from exposure to lead-based paints in older materials and copper chromium arsenic (CCA) treated timber. For information on the dangers of asbestos, lead-based paint and CCA treated timber and tips for dealing with these materials contact your local council's Environmental Health Officer. You can also use a simple test kit from Bunnings to indicate the presence of lead-based paint.
