Summer ready

With spring upon us, it’s time to prepare the lawn for summer. It’s never been quicker or easier to get the grass looking greener on your side of the fence. Follow these simple steps for a perfect lawn.

Feed it right

Regular feeding is key to a healthy lawn, strengthening it for the scorching summer season and all that summer play. But don’t use a fertiliser that dumps all its nutrients quickly – this will cause a growth surge and more mowing! Instead, go for a granular fertiliser like Scotts Lawn Builder, that has been developed with slow-release technology; one application every three months is all that’s needed to achieve a lush lawn that doesn’t need mowing every five minutes. The good news? Weeds will be kept at bay, too, thanks to thicker grass growth.

Spread the word

The most effective way to apply granular lawn fertiliser is with a lightweight, handheld device to ensure even spread at the correct rate. It will speed up the process, too, taking only about 10 minutes to cover the average lawn. Try Scotts ‘Handy Green’ spreader, ideal for small- to medium-sized lawns.

Instant green

When you want to give the grass a quick boost, nitrogen is like a dose of green magic. Achieve a deep greening of your lawn in a matter of days by using a fast-acting product like Scotts Lawn Builder ‘Extreme Green’ liquid fertiliser, a spray-on formula that contains key nutrients including a highly soluble form of nitrogen, so you’ll see a lush, green lawn in just three days.

Note: Store products out of reach of children and pets, and always follow the instructions.

Grave health hazards are linked to asbestos, which may be in homes built up to 1990. Health hazards may result from exposure to lead-based paints in older materials and copper chromium arsenic (CCA) treated timber. For information on the dangers of asbestos, lead-based paint and CCA treated timber and tips for dealing with these materials contact your local council's Environmental Health Officer. You can also use a simple test kit from Bunnings to indicate the presence of lead-based paint.
