How to set up post supports for a carport
Overview
The first thing you need to do when building a carport is create the supports. Follow this step-by-step guide and we'll show you how to mark out and install them yourself.

Steps
Dig holes for posts
Mark out your holes and dig to the plans and specifications of your carport. This can be marked out with stringlines. Before you dig, make sure there isn't any power, gas or water pipes under where you're working.
Put in post supports
Put some timber supports over the holes for your post supports. Screw the support loosely into the timber so it's held up out of the bottom of the hole and the concrete can go around it.
Fill your hole up with concrete
Finally, fill up your holes with the concrete. Square off the post supports while the concrete is still wet. Use your stringlines from Step 1 to make sure that your supports are all level. After the concrete dries, remove the timber supports and you're ready to install your beams and posts.
