PREPARATION
New Timber
How to prepare new timber:
Allow your new timber to weather for 4-6 weeks before applying.
Ensure your deck is clean and ready to go with Feast Watson Woodclean.
Sand the surface lightly to remove any grain raise for the best results for your deck. And remember, remove any leftover dust before coating.
Weathered Timber
How to prepare weathered timber:
Ensure your deck is clean and ready to go with Feast Watson Woodclean.
For best results, sand your timber slightly to remove deteriorations. Make sure to remove all left over sand before coasting!
Previously Coated Timber
How to prepare previously coated timber:
Let's change it up...
If your deck already has stain or oil, don't worry. Check if your surface is ready by sprinkling water onto your deck:
if the water absorbs - you're good to go!
if the water beats, you may need to let your deck further weather, or requires you to either sand or strip your deck.
Do you have a painted or varnished surface?
Before coating, you must bring your timber back to bare timber by stripping or sanding your deck.
APPLICATION
How to apply Wet Look Decking Oil to your deck:
So, how do you make your deck look industry standard? Let’s see!
Before you get started, you need to ensure the following:
Your timber is completely dry before applying the Wet Look Deck Oil.
Wet Look Deck is thoroughly stirred through before starting (and during!). Avoid introducing any bubbles!
If you are coating a large space and need more than one Deck Oil, mix both cans in a large container.
Make sure you only use the best tools, such as a quality synthetic or pure bristle brush or lambswool applicator.
Please don’t use a roller! We only want the best for your deck.
Alright take your product and your brush and let’s apply your timber oil:
Apply your first coat of Wet Look Deck by walking along 3-4 planks at a time, in the same direction as the grain of the deck.
Don’t forget about your edges! They need to be fully coated.
Note: You don’t have to be cautious about how much to use – the more the merrier!
Leave your deck to dry for 4 hours. Go make yourself a cup of tea, put your feet up and read a book.
Once you have finished a few chapters, apply a second coat as above.
If your timber is in direct sun exposure, around pools and in humid areas, we recommend a third coat.
If you want the best 'Wet-Look' for your deck, apply three coats. A third coast will increase the Gloss Level of your finish.
MAINTENANCE
How to I maintain my deck after using the Wet Look Deck Oil?
You’ve finished! Well done. Now, how do you keep your deck looking it’s best?
Regular check on the coated timber to look for any colour loss, dryness or weathering. If this occurs, recoat the timber and it will return to its original glossy beauty.
If you recoat, don’t forget to clean your deck first using Woodclean.
