A Christmas chandelier above a table setting

Overview

Bring extra sparkle to your festive table this year and celebrate the beauty of New Zealand flora with this D.I.Y. Christmas chandelier. Weave native foliage and flowers with baubles and lights to create a glowing bespoke hanging decoration.

Steps

1Tie the stakes

Unwrap the bundle of bamboo stakes and measure 300mm from each end. At each mark, wrap jute twine tightly around stakes about 20 times, tie off and trim with scissors.

2Attach the plants

Use lengths of twine to tie foliage and blooms to the bamboo bundle.

Tip: To fill out the display, tuck more foliage and flowers into the existing stems and twine, or secure using fishing line which won’t be visible.

3Add the baubles

Securing with fishing line, hang baubles to dangle down and nestle on top of the arrangement. Wrap loosely with micro LED lights, hiding the battery pack on top. Tie fishing line to the ends of bamboo stakes to hang the chandelier from a sturdy overhead beam.

4Keep in mind...

When hanging these projects, make sure you use fixings appropriate for your type of wall or beam, and for the weight of the finished pieces.
