D.I.Y. garden tool storage rack
Overview
Garden tools can be tricky to store away neatly because of their size and shape. Find out how to create a garden tool storage rack with this guide from Bunnings.

Steps
Pre-cut the timber to size
To make this project easier, you can get your timber pre-cut at your local Bunnings*. For our cut list, we had our ply sheet cut to 250mm x 1065mm and the pine length cut to 1065mm.

Measure and mark the ply
Measure and mark the ply where you'll hang your tools. We marked three rectangular shaped slots along the ply but you can do as many as you like. Each slot was 50mm wide and 150mm deep. We marked ours at various distances along the ply to suit specific garden tools, like a spade, broom or rake.
Cut the ply
Clamp the ply to the workbench. Cut out the slots for the tools with a jigsaw along the straight lines where you marked. Make sure you're wearing the appropriate safety equipment when you make your cuts.
Sand the ply
You may need to use a chisel to remove and clean up any debris around the slots. Then sand the ply with the orbital sander and 80 grit sandpaper for a smooth finish.
Pre-drill the holes for the batten screws
Pre-drill and countersink five holes for the 100mm batten screws above the slots you've cut out in the ply.
Measure and mark the batten
Measure and mark where you're going to drill the holes in the batten. Make sure they're in-between the other fixing points. We marked out four fixing points.
Pre-drill the holes in the batten
Pre-drill and countersink the four holes to attach the unit to the wall or fence.
Join the ply and batten together
Apply a bead of glue to the edge of the plywood. Then turn it on its side and line it up with the edges of the batten. Screw the two together using the 100mm batten screws.
Attach hooks
Screw some hooks into the sides of the storage rack. These can be used to hold gardening gloves, small gardening tools or even a raincoat.
