How to install vertical blinds
Overview
Vertical blinds are an excellent option when you want to give a large window or a sliding glass door some shade and privacy. They don't take up too much room and simply slide out of the way. Installing them is a quick job you can easily do yourself. Watch this video and find out everything you need to know to get the job done.

Steps
Measure up your window or sliding door
Measure up the width of the glass and frame that you need to cover. Allow approximately 50mm of overhang on either side of the frame. This will reduce the amount of light leaking through the sides. It will also give you enough room to draw the blinds all the way off the face of the glass. Vertical blinds can be made to measure but are also sold in standard sizes, so purchase the size that's right for your job.
Mount the brackets to the architrave
The frame above your window or door is called the architrave. Mount your brackets on the architrave in a straight and level horizontal line. The simplest way to make sure your brackets are level with each other is to check if your architrave is level. If it is, then mount your brackets flush with the top of the architrave. It if isn't, use your level to draw a straight, horizontal line across your architrave and mount your brackets along that line. To mount your brackets, pre-drill holes for the screws and screw the brackets into place.
Install the track for the vertical blind
Lightly tighten the cleat on the end of each bracket. Then take the track and clip it into the cleats. Sometimes the cleats can be slightly out of alignment with one another. Use the track to get them into line and then firmly tighten all the cleats in place.
Hang the vertical blades
The vertical blades of the blind are longer than the height of standard windows and doors. You'll need to adjust their size so they hang 10mm or so off the ground. Measure your required length, fold the top of the blade over at that length and use the rod and hanger supplied to lock that fold into place. Trim off any excess material and then hang the blade on the track. Then simply hang the wand on the track and you're done.
