The team at Bunnings Manukau welcomed The Young Guns Skate School to transform their store car park into a pop-up skateboarding workshop, with free lessons and demonstrations. The workshop’s aim was to encourage kids to give skateboarding a try.
“Learning to skate helps to boost confidence and self-esteem amongst children,” said Simon Thorp, a top New Zealand skateboarder and founder of Young Guns Skate School. “Along with balance and coordination, skateboarding teaches perseverance and allows kids to experience the satisfaction of working hard to achieve a new goal. Many of the skills learnt during our workshops also help young people in other areas, such as at school and in their home life.”
During the event, Bunnings Team Members were on hand to provide support and extra activities, such as a sausage sizzle, kids’ D.I.Y. activities and giveaways. Renowned local graffiti artist, Pascal Atiga Bridger, hosted a popular art workshop where participants could paint their own skate decks, which had been donated by Bunnings.
