Christchurch community group 298 Youth Health had its centre revamped in July 2022, thanks to dedicated volunteers and the team from Bunnings Warehouse Shirley.
298 Youth Health has made it their mission to provide free and accessible health care services to Christchurch's young people. Their centre provides access to local doctors, nurses, counsellors and youth workers, who are all passionate about creating a safe haven for young people aged 10-24 years. Here, they can access medical, mental and sexual health services and resources.
"It's important that we create a space for our patients that is comfortable and safe,” says Fiona Kay, General Manager at 298 Youth Health.
The centre needed a transformation to make it as welcoming and comfortable as possible, and that’s where the team from Bunnings Shirley stepped in to help by donating materials and partnering with 298 Youth Health and the local community to completely revitalise the space.
The group updated the waiting area and outdoor spaces and the new space features planter boxes and bench seats, potted plants, a freshly painted mural, lighting and cosy furnishings.
"We’re happy to be able to help 298 Youth Health who do an amazing job supporting our young people,” says Mike Drysdale, Complex Manager at Bunnings Warehouse Shirley. “The team enjoyed working alongside the staff and volunteers at the centre to realise their vision and create a welcoming place for all who visit.”
“We’re so pleased the Bunnings team got behind our efforts to give our centre the love and care it deserves,” Fiona Kay says. "We are so thrilled with all the changes. The new space feels so warm and welcoming now. I can't wait to see what our patients think of it all."
