Bunnings has a long and proud history of supporting the New Zealand Red Cross through community involvement, and disaster and emergency responses.
Our relationship began in 2011, when we joined the fundraising efforts for the Christchurch Earthquake relief, helping to raise more than $200,000 for the community. Bunnings Team Members also provided hands-on support to help the Christchurch community get back on its feet. We provided similar support for the 2016 Kaikoura earthquake, when Team Members helped in recovery efforts both on the ground and with fundraising.
In 2015, every Bunnings store ran a fundraising barbecue for the Red Cross centenary celebrations, raising more than $6,000 for the organisation.
In 2020 and 2021, Bunnings donated travel power adaptors as a way of helping support refugees. Team Members also helped Red Cross volunteers with the Meals on Wheels programme, and donated garden seeds that were included in more than 3,700 Red Cross parcels to those in need in our communities.
Bunnings is also involved in the Red Cross’s Pathways to Settlement programme, which provides former refugees with comprehensive settlement support for the first 12 months as they integrate into their new communities. Part of this programme includes delivering a welcome pack filled with essential household items (laundry and cleaning supplies, for example) to help former refugees settle into their new homes. Each welcome pack is hand-packed and donated by the local Bunnings team.
In 2023, Bunnings stores across Aotearoa New Zealand held a sausage sizzle to help raise funds to support the flood response, following the devastating weather events that hit regions in the North Island.
We look forward to continuing to support the New Zealand Red Cross and the incredible work they do.
