This is a small evergreen perennial. An erect, multi-stemmed shrublet of up to 2 metres in height. All parts of the plant produce a white, milky latex when broken. It is a host plant for the monarch butterfly and is often used as a feeder plant for the caterpillars. Swan plants produce large fluffy seed balls which make it a rather unique statement plant in any garden.
