From the large Heath family, Ericas are hardy evergreen shrubs, and suit a range of growing conditions. Flowering from winter to spring, the colour range is vast, with flowers in the form of bells, tubes or urns, and leaves are narrow and needle-like. Prune after flowering to maintain vigour, encourage new growth and increase flower show for the next year. Plant in peaty, well-drained soil and fertilize very sparingly with acid fertilizer.
