What are they?
Apple HomePod is a Wi-Fi-enabled smart speaker powered by Apple’s Siri assistant. It can play music through Apple Music, send and receive messages, make calls, and more – all through simple voice commands.
Apple HomeKit is a companion app that you can use on your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch to control your smart products using more settings, and more customisation.
How does Siri work?
Siri is ready to help at any time. Just say, “Hey, Siri”, and ask a question or request a task – like, “What’s the forecast today?” or, “Turn on the kitchen lights”. If you have an iPhone or iPad, then you've probably used Siri before.
Are they smart hubs?
It's important to know that even though the Apple HomePod can control smart products, it isn’t a smart hub.
Similarly, because Apple HomeKit is just an app and only works with HomeKit-compatible smart products, it isn’t a smart hub in the truest sense – but it does share some smart hub functionality.
