How to choose a garden screen
An outdoor screen is the ultimate concealer. You may want to hide something in your garden, add some privacy to an area or create an eye-catching feature. No matter what you want to do, there are a few options to consider.
Outdoor screen panel
Outdoor screen panels look great and can help you transform any space. They can be used as a backdrop to highlight something in your garden like a plant or they can used to hide a fence or bin area. Screens are also a great way to create some privacy. There are many different colours, styles and textures to choose from to suit your space, and you’d be surprised how easy they are to install.
If you love the natural look of timber, a timber screen makes a great feature or can be used to create a little more privacy in your garden. Choose from a variety of hardwoods, palings or even a composite material for a durable, but eco-friendly solution.
Plants for screening
Plants are a great natural choice to section off part of your garden. Given time to grow, the right plants can create a good screen or barrier for your property, as well as providing you with privacy from the neighbours.
With some pruning, you can easily control their height to block out whatever you want, even up to 10m in height. If you’re planting saplings or young plants, they will take time to grow so make sure that you keep that in mind. A few screening plants to consider include lilly pillies, pittosporum tenuifolium and viburnums.
Bamboo is a strong, natural resource that makes a great screening option for around the home. It is a cost effective natural cladding on fences and gates, or it can be framed to make panels or a fence extension. As a strong renewable resource, bamboo won’t rot or decay so it should last for years wherever you install it. You can expect a little natural fading and some slight cracking over time, but bamboo is a great way to add an exotic touch to your backyard.
Adding a trellis screen is an easy project to do that can provide your backyard with big results. Trellis screens can be either timber or plastic. Trellis is a versatile material that can act as a screen or fence, or you can train and grow plants on it such as creepers, vines or roses. You could even use it to create a vertical garden in a small courtyard or balcony. You can also use trellis to hide rubbish bins or a water tank by completely covering them inside a trellis framework with a few walls and a top.
