Project Overview

In this video you’ll learn how to assemble a set of outdoor steps. We’ll show you how to position them and screw them into position on your deck.
Continue to Step-by-step instructions.

Step by Step Instructions

1 Assemble the steps in your kit
2 Secure the steps to your deck
  • Step 1. Assemble the steps in your kit

Your D.I.Y. stair kit has two stringers that run down the sides of the steps and the treads. Place a stringer on its side and slot the treads into the grooves. Make sure the non-slip tread is on the topside where you will walk. Position the second stringer on the other side, then drill the pieces together using the screws supplied.

  • Step 2. Secure the steps to your deck

Make sure the ground is level and place the stairs into position. Drill a pilot hole through the stringer into the deck. Then screw the stringers to the deck. Make sure you screw on a slight angle as this is stronger and stops the timber from splitting.

Please make sure you use all equipment appropriately and safely when following the advice in these D.I.Y. videos. You need to be familiar with how to use equipment safely and follow the instructions which came with the equipment. If you are unsure, you may feel it is safest to consult an expert, such as the manufacturer or an expert Bunnings team member.
