6 How to plan your kitchen relocation
  • Step 1. Kitchen redesign by rejuvenation

The most affordable way to spruce up a kitchen is with a rejuvenation. If your existing kitchen is still functional, a simple kitchen redesign may be your best bet. You can create a new colour scheme by painting laminate benchtops, tile splashbacks and cabinetry. Changing the tapware and handles on existing doors can also freshen up the space. The best part is you can do the work yourself, because you don't need to call in trade professionals to move any electrical or plumbing services.
  • Step 2. Update your kitchen with a complete renovation

A kitchen renovation is where you take the existing layout and services, and update the benchtops, cabinetry, and appliances. Similar to a kitchen redesign or rejuvenation, there’s no need to call in the professionals to move electrical or plumbing services.
  • Step 3. How to plan your kitchen renovation

First you need to work out your budget, gather inspiration and seek expert advice. You can get a good idea by checking out our kitchen displays in-store and talking through your ideas with our experts. We also have online galleries, and in-home kitchen consultants to help you with your cabinetry design and layout, as well as your colour and styling scheme.
  • Step 4. Make an installation plan for your kitchen update

Make sure to coordinate the demolition of your existing kitchen in conjunction with the arrival of your new one. To start your installation, rough in any additional electrical or plumbing requirements. Remember, these need to be completed by a licensed trades person. Once the services are in place, you can start on the cabinetry and so on.
  • Step 5. Kitchen relocation

If you're planning a larger change, you may consider relocating your kitchen to a new space. A relocation is either where you change the existing layout or completely move your kitchen to a new part of the house. While it may be a bit more expensive, a relocation gives you more scope to design your kitchen exactly the way you want it.
  • Step 6. How to plan your kitchen relocation

While the design opportunities are more open, kitchen relocations are very similar to a renovation in the planning and installation stages. It’s still important to stick to your budget and seek design and product advice. Remember, when your kitchen layout changes dramatically or you move into a new space, you need to use licensed trades people to move plumbing and electrical services. Contact your council to ensure you comply with all the rules and regulation before you start.
