Project Overview

This heart artwork made from string is a lovely craft gift for Mum on Mother’s Day. You’d be surprised how easy it is to make it look great. Continue to step-by-step instructions

Step by Step Instructions

1 Sand the ply panel edges
2 Stain the board
3 Draw a heart
4 Add the nails
5 Criss-cross the string
6 Run string around the outline
7 Tie the string off
  • Step 1. Sand the ply panel edges

Give the edges of the ply panel a sand to smooth them out.
  • Step 2. Stain the board

With your newspaper underneath to protect where you’re working, use the paintbrush to give the ply panel a wood stain.
  • Step 3. Draw a heart

After the stain has dried, use a pencil to draw a big heart in the middle of the project panel.
  • Step 4. Add the nails

Carefully hammer in nails along the line you’ve drawn. Try and make them about 2-3cm apart.
  • Step 5. Criss-cross the string

Tie the stringline to one of the nails and start criss-crossing it across the panel.
  • Step 6. Run string around the outline

Tie the string on a nail and run it around the outline of the heart.
  • Step 7. Tie the string off

Make a knot on a nail when you’re finished to tie the string off.
