How to make a palm lampshade

Put a personal touch on your interior style by creating a unique lampshade that complements your décor.

Bunnings magazine, January/February 2020

What you need

Fabric paint

Lamp base (we used Verve Design ‘Cable’ dark wood pyramid lamp base)

Plain lampshade (we used Verve Design ‘Dawn’ large round tapered lampshade in Cream)

Size 10 flat craft paintbrush

Watercolour pencils

1. On the lampshade, use a water-soluble colouring pencil to create clusters of palm fronds (or your own design).

2. Dip a paintbrush in water to lightly blend over the palm fronds to create a subtle watercolour effect.

3. Trace over the palm fronds in light blue fabric paint to create a three-dimensional effect, leaving to dry thoroughly.

4. With the lamp unplugged, unscrew the cap of the lamp base to position the shade, then reattach the cap.
