How to get your rental bond back

If you’re about to move on from your rental property, you want to make sure you leave it squeaky clean. We’ll show you how to turn your rental ‘wear and tear’ into ‘as good as new’ with a few easy tips.

Get cleaning

With a little elbow grease, your rental’s walls will look brand new. All you need is some sugar soap and a few basic cleaning products. Check out our range of cleaning products to get you started.

Make sure that you aren’t forgetting hard-to-reach areas like the tops of doors, window frames, light fittings and curtain rails. Air conditioner vents and heaters can attract a lot of dust, so they’ll need a wipe down as well.

Patch up any holes

Accidents happen. However, you’d be surprised how easy it is to patch a hole in a wall. And, with the right colour paint, your walls will be looking brand new.

You can also use this technique if you have any picture hooks, nails or screws to remove. For your next move, consider hanging your picture frames and photos with hanging strips instead

Say goodbye to mould

If the bathroom or laundry ventilation isn’t up to scratch, you may have some mould. This can especially build up along silicone in baths and showers. To remove it, simply give it a spray with mould remover and give it a strong scrub.

Steam clean carpets & fabrics

The floors often take the most wear and tear in the home. You can hire a carpet cleaner from your local Bunnings and with a good steam clean, they’ll be looking new in no time. You can also give your curtains, drapes and even furniture a steam clean to freshen them up.

Before moving in

Before moving to your new rental, a really good tip is to document the condition of your new property by taking photos of everything including marks on the walls and skirting boards, scratches on benchtops and curtain and carpet marks. Along with a filled-out condition report, those photos could save you some repair costs when you’re ready to make your next move.
