10 autumn indoor D.I.Y. projects
With its cooler weather, autumn is the perfect time to get inside and start your indoor projects. Whether it’s a coat of paint, some new flooring or just a good tidy up, here are some simple ideas that will make a huge difference to any home.
Transform with paint
A fresh coat of paint will give any space an instant makeover. From the whole house to just some kitchen cabinets, for a relatively small cost, painting can make a big difference to the look and value of your home.
Draw on your walls
A chalkboard wall will give your kids hours of fun, especially when they’re cooped up inside during the colder months. It’s also a great idea for your kitchen, in a home office or for café menus. You can easily build one or just paint a spare wall with chalkboard paint, which also comes in spray cans.
Add style with laminate flooring
Laying a laminate floor is easy to do yourself, and a quick way to update a space. It’s also practical and cost effective, giving your floor a premium timber look for less. There are plenty of wood grain laminates available that will add style and personality.
People-proof your floor
If you have a floor that gets a lot of foot traffic, think about laying down floor tiles to make it more durable. There’s a wide range of colours and textures, and it’s easy to choose a style that suits your space.
Revive your tiles
Cleaning the grout between your tiles will give your floor a new lease on life. If you find that the grout has faded, you can quickly restore it with a grout pen or grout paint.
Add more versatility to your walk-in robe by installing a wire wardrobe system. The kits don’t take long to assemble and will save time looking for your stuff.
Access all areas
If you have any corner cabinets in your kitchen, installing a rotating basket will help maximise what can be a hard-to-reach space. And don’t worry, they can be retro-fitted to almost any cabinet. Then you can easily swivel your baskets to bring those items hiding at the back up to the front.
To free up some space, you could install a closet for your linen. It’s easy to do yourself and a great way to keep all your linen in the one place. You’ll find modular storage kits with all the shelving and drawers you need.
Change your smoke alarm battery
It’s important to change your smoke alarm batteries at least once a year. Most people schedule it for the end of daylight savings but it’s important to test your alarms regularly. If your smoke alarm isn’t working properly, replace the whole unit. You’ll be protecting your home and your family.
