There are plenty of jobs that require a small amount of concrete. Learning this basic technique for mixing concrete in a wheelbarrow can really come in handy. We also show you the tools you’ll need to do the job properly.
Continue to step-by-step instructions

Step by Step Instructions

1 Prepare to mix the concrete
2 Mix the concrete and water together
  • Step 1. Prepare to mix the concrete

Ready-mix concrete contains powdered lime, which is quite corrosive. Before you start, make sure you wear safety glasses, a dust mask and a pair of gloves. Then put the contents of the ready-mix bag into your wheelbarrow and pour some water over the top. The instructions on the pack will tell you how much.
  • Step 2. Mix the concrete and water together

Use a square mouth shovel to dig under the dry ready-mix powder and fold it into the wet section. Then work moisture through to the bottom using a stabbing motion across the surface of the mixture. Then alternate between folding and stabbing with your shovel until the texture is consistent.
