Magical makeover

Changing the colour scheme in a bathroom is no easy task, but when confronted by a symphony of brown, D.I.Y. and organisation expert Ange Sibley of Ever So Homely (eversohomely.com.au) was determined to try. “The house is about five years old now and there are a few things in it that aren’t really to our liking, so it’s just about personalising the house to be more ‘us’,” she says.

Bright update

By changing the brown laminate vanity to white, Ange has lightened the whole feel of the room. The vanity was prepped, primed and then painted with Dulux Aquanamel in Lexicon Quarter. The existing chrome handles were a challenge, as Ange couldn’t find any in the same size to replace them. The solution? Rustoleum spray paint gave them a matt black makeover.

Simple changes

The plain bathroom mirror was starting to look worse for wear, with a little de-silvering around the edges. A frame fixed to the front of the glass solved the problem, while adding the organic appeal of timber.

Accents of black are a fantastic way to add an on-trend finish to the bathroom. Ange chose a Caroma ‘Jade’ tower mixer for the basin and a Mondella ‘Rumba’ waterfall bath spout. The bath tap was fixed behind the tiling, which meant changing it for a new one would become a major job, so Ange spray-painted it and the existing bath spout back plate to match the new fittings. The chrome towel rails made way for Mondella ‘Vivace’ ones, while a Mondella ‘Rumba’ toilet roll holder was just the right size for a hand towel. “Making these minor improvements to the bathroom has created a sense of space. It is now modern, clean, simple and bright – a pleasant place to be in,” says Ange.
