How to clean grout

Project Overview

Here are a few simple ways to remove dirt from the grout in between your tiles. You’ll see how to prepare your floor and what kind of equipment to use. We’ll also show you a couple of cleaning products to make the job a little easier.
Continue to Step-by-step instructions.

Step by Step Instructions

1 Clean the surface of the floor
2 Scrub the grout
  • Step 1. Clean the surface of the floor

Give the floor a general clean before concentrating on the grout. Start by sweeping the floor with a dustpan and brush to remove any loose dirt. Then give it a wash with a mop and cleaning solution. Use a scourer to scrub off any of the more stubborn stains.
  • Step 2. Scrub the grout

Spray the grout with a grout cleaner. Every grout and tile is different, so it’s a good idea to spray a small section first to make sure the cleaner is colour-safe for your tiles. Once you are sure, spray the grout and leave it for ten minutes to soak in. Then use your scrubbing brush and a bit of elbow grease to give the grout a good scrub.

Please make sure you use all equipment appropriately and safely when following the advice in these D.I.Y. videos. You need to be familiar with how to use equipment safely and follow the instructions which came with the equipment. If you are unsure, you may feel it is safest to consult an expert, such as the manufacturer or an expert Bunnings team member.
