 Flowers to Sow

Continue to dead head. Control thrips, aphid, scale and mealy bug with Yates Confidor. Continue to plant out spring flowering bulbs. Sow Sweet pea seeds for winter flowering. Prior to leaf fall spray roses and deciduous ornamentals with Yates Copper Oxychloride to prevent over-wintering of foliage and stem diseases.
 Vegies to Sow
Prepare soil for sowing and planting out winter vegetables. Pests can be controlled with Yates Target or Natures Way Derris Dust. Finish harvesting late summer vegies such as beans, tomatoes and cucurbits. Watch out for late fungal infections such as rust and mildew.
 March Pruning
Take semi-hardwood cuttings from trees and shrubs.  Use Yates Clonex to help increase root development. Choose material from healthy and strong growing plants. Trim hedges to allow for some growth before winter.
 Fertilising in March
Prepare new garden beds and apply a good base dressing with Yates Thrive Granular All Purpose Plant Food.  Established garden beds can be fed with Natures Way Sheep Pellets or Acticote Pots and Garden Beds for a final feed prior to winter.
 March Projects

Continue to harvest autumn fruit such as apples and stonefruit.  Start to reduce the water given to houseplants as they start to slow down for winter.

Product of the Month

Lush Lawn Seed

Thicken up tired lawns with Yates Lush Patch Pack.

Seed of the Month

Thyme

Grows easily – if a little slowly - from seed and is tough and drought hardy once established. Sow thyme seeds either direct where the plants are to grow in the garden, or into pots filled with well-drained potting mix. In cold climates it's a good idea to keep the young plants somewhere sheltered for the first winter.

 Water Saving Tip

Use Autumn leaves to make mulch and soil-improving compost.
