 Flowers to Sow

Dead head annuals. Start to prepare beds for bulb planting. Spray Gladioli with Yates Confidor to prevent thrip damage. Control rust, black spot and powdery mildew on roses and ornamentals with Yates Shield or Super Shield. Feed flowering plants with Thrive Flower & Fruit.
 Vegies to Sow
A late seasonal sowing of cucurbits, beans and lettuce can be done.  Most summer veggies grow and develop quickly so there is still time to get another crop in before the cold weather.  Continue to remove laterals from tomatoes and spray with Yates Copper Oxychloride to control blight.
 January Pruning
Continue to deadhead annuals and roses.  Summer prune peaches, nectarines and kiwifruit.  Trim and tie down new grape growth.  After berry fruits have finished cropping, remove old canes and tie in the new season’s canes- selecting only the strongest.
 Fertilising in January
Liquid feed with Yates Nitrosol Original for a good general feed on annuals and shrubs.  To encourage better flowering and fruiting on veggies and flowering annuals, feed with Thrive Flower and Fruit concentrate.
 January Projects

January is the month when most gardens are likely to experience water stress. Ensure gardens are well watered and mulched. Incorporate Yates Waterwise Water Storing Crystals into the soil to help conserve moisture.
