 Flowers to Sow

Carnations are a perennial favourite. This time of year start seeds inside then plant out in a sunny spot when it's warmer. Bulbs are in full bloom. Carefully weed around them. Continue to deadhead polyanthus and primula to prolong flowering.
 Vegies to Sow
Peas- Are easy to grow and are adaptable to light and heavy soils. Climbing peas will need support, but dwarf peas will yield better if able to cling to twigs or wire netting. Sow tomatoes indoors, ready to plant once the soil is warmer.
 August Pruning
Trim Camellias after they have finished flowering. Prune passionfruit to encourage fruit onto new seasons growth.
 Fertilising in August
Feed Camellias & Azaleas after flowering to encourage new growth. Apply fertilisers such as Thrive granular All Purpose or Citrus Plant Foods at the base of fruit trees and water in.
 August Projects

Top dress lawns with Lush Lawn Lifter or Lawn Master. Treat mossy lawns or hard surface areas with Yates Surrender.

Seed of the Month

Begonias

Grow very well in heavily shaded places, but can do well in a sunny position if watered regularly during dry weather. Seedlings should be raised in seed boxes until 5-7 cm high, then transplanted.

Water Saving Tip

Plant new houseplants and outdoor patio plants into Tuscan Edge Self Watering Planters to minimise water use. The planters are made from UV plastic, won’t let plants dry out and the easy watering hole means no mess inside.
